Update: Mask and Vaccination Requirement

We are aware of a recent COVID-19 outbreak at UIUC after last week's Engineering Open House event. The most up-to-date testing information from UIUC is available on the Illinois Covid Dashboard website. We believe the ANS Student Conference location is sufficiently isolated from the rest of the campus. However, we are making the following adjustments to our policies to mitigate any potential spread at the conference.

Rapid test must be done at registration; we will have rapid tests available for everyone who attends the conference.
Attendees that have had COVID-19 within the last 90 days must show a negative rapid test rather than a PCR test. The SHIELD CU program offers quick turnaround PCR testing for visitors to campus. Instructions and testing location are available on their website.

2) Masks are mandatory. Everyone must wear a mask during the conference. We strongly encourage N95 or KN95 masks.

We understand that this may affect your decision to attend the conference. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes. If you no longer wish to attend, we will fully refund your registration fee, no questions asked; contact registrar@ans.org.

We in the American Nuclear Society and Department of Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign eagerly look forward to welcoming students, professionals, and the future leaders in nuclear science and technology at the 2022 ANS Student Conference.

Our theme is: Saving the World One Atom at a Time. This theme reflects the important role the nuclear sciences will play in solving many of the world’s grand challenges. It also recognizes the atomic contributions we all make every day. Together, these contributions form the foundations of solutions to these grand challenges. It celebrates the people that make science possible by acknowledging that we come to this conference from an infinitude of backgrounds and experiences. It encourages us to widen our circles and include scientists and engineers with a diversity of thoughts. Finally, it inspires us to be active participants in the solutions to the world’s problems.

This year, our planning committee is hosting Fall semester information sessions with student sections to give them the ins and outs of attending our in-person conference. If your section would like to set up a session, contact our Technical Co-Chair Jeremy Mettler at jmettle2@illinois.edu.

Summaries including research, internship projects, senior design projects, and nuclear policy are invited. Summaries should be 1-4 pages in length, and follow the ANS Transactions guidelines.
