Taking shape: Fusion energy ecosystems built with public-private partnerships
It’s possible to describe fusion in simple terms: heat and squeeze small atoms to get abundant clean energy. But there’s nothing simple about getting fusion ready for the grid.
Private developers, national lab and university researchers, suppliers, and end users working toward that goal are developing a range of complex technologies to reach fusion temperatures and pressures, confounded by science and technology gaps linked to plasma behavior; materials, diagnostics, and electronics for extreme environments; fuel cycle sustainability; and economics.
Proceedings can be purchased from the ANS Store.
As the nuclear community expands and relates to more and more allied technical fields, the Topical Meeting becomes an increasingly important medium of communication. Under American Nuclear Society sponsorship, Topical Meetings are presented each year within the United States as well as internationally.
The ANS Proceedings of Topical Meetings provide archival records of these important technical exchanges. These Proceedings meet established scientific and technical standards, especially as to the criteria for acceptance and review of technical papers published. Hundreds of highly qualified specialists personally participate in ANS Topical Meetings. An awareness of the technology as reported, discussed, and appraised at these meetings can be of inestimable value to those who could not attend.
ANS publications cannot accept papers from countries that are on the list of Sanctioned Countries and Programs, issued by the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Department of Treasury, in the resource-center sanction programs.
