Argonne’s METL gears up to test more sodium fast reactor components
Argonne National Laboratory has successfully swapped out an aging cold trap in the sodium test loop called METL (Mechanisms Engineering Test Loop), the Department of Energy announced April 23. The upgrade is the first of its kind in the United States in more than 30 years, according to the DOE, and will help test components and operations for the sodium-cooled fast reactors being developed now.
ANS is committed to advancing careers in the growing nuclear industry by addressing workforce needs through targeted training and certification.
We offer a growing collection of certifications, training courses, and resources, each designed to cater to different specialties. Our programs equip nuclear professionals like you with the tools to expand your knowledge, advance your career, and navigate this unique industry.
Nuclear 101 Course
If you’re transitioning from another industry or looking to expand your technical understanding, Nuclear 101 can get you up-to-speed and give you the foundational knowledge that will help you succeed in the field. The Nuclear 101 course is currently offered in person and will be available on-demand later this year!
Licensing & Regulation Course
This course is for industry professionals with existing nuclear knowledge, especially those in operations, engineering, communications, or oversight. The course examines the unique regulatory practices of the nuclear industry to help nuclear professionals prepare for roles requiring regulatory knowledge.
Certified Nuclear Professional (CNP) Certification
Launching summer of 2025, this certification is an intermediate step between a four-year engineering degree and a Professional Engineer (PE) license. Individuals seeking the CNP credential will need to meet a specific set of eligibility requirements and will then be required to pass a comprehensive exam.
PE Exam Prep Resources
Prepare for the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) Examination in the nuclear discipline. ANS offers study resources including a PE Exam Preparation Module Program, the Nuclear PE Exam Study Guide, and the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Nuclear PE Sample Exam.
