Helping to save the plant safety puzzle: An overview of PRA
Probabilistic risk assessments (PRAs) have advanced the safe operation of the U.S. reactor fleet over many decades. Risk insights from PRAs have provided information from many different perspectives, from what is most important to maintain at a facility to a better understanding of how to address new information regarding safety issues. The methods and tools that have supported the creation and enhancement of PRA models were established through multiple decades of research, starting with WASH-1400, The Reactor Safety Study,1 published in 1975, through the comprehensive plant-specific models in use today.
COVID-19 Note: Please check this page often for meeting status updates due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
American Nuclear Society meetings and conferences are the best way to keep current with the ever changing fields of nuclear science and technology.
In addition to two national meetings per year, ANS sponsors many topical meetings which concentrate on a particular technical area. Many of these meetings are planned many years in advance and are listed here. To have a meeting listed here, it must be approved by the National Program Committee of the American Nuclear Society for inclusion on the ANS Calendar.
For more than 65 years, ANS has provided a forum for advancing the state of applied nuclear science and technology. We remain committed to serving the needs of the nuclear professional community during these unprecedented times. In the coming weeks, we will be introducing a new set of digital and video tools that will enable the robust technical exchange of an ANS meeting—papers, presentations, posters, and plenaries, etc.—while ensuring the health and safety of everyone involved during the COVID-19 pandemic.
