The American Nuclear Society’s Risk-informed, Performance-based Principles and Policy Committee (RP3C) recently held another presentation in its monthly Community of Practice (CoP) series. Former RP3C chair N. Prasad Kadambi opened the meeting with brief introductory remarks about the RP3C and the need for new approaches to nuclear design that go beyond conventional and deterministic methods. He then welcomed this month’s speaker: Jon Facemire, senior project manager of new nuclear at the Nuclear Energy Institute, who presented “New Regulatory Frameworks: Part 53, Proposed Part 57, and Considerations for Licensing.”

On July 9, the American Nuclear Society hosted the third installment of its “Nuclear in the States” webinar series. This time, the webinar looked to the current landscape of Utah’s nuclear sector—from its policy developments to ongoing projects to workforce needs.

ANS CEO Craig Piercy, who led the discussion, was joined by Chris Hayter, cofounder of Hi Tech Solutions and founder of Fulcrum Point Energy; Emy Lesofski, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox’s energy advisor and director of the Utah Office of Energy Development (OED); and Jeff Richardson, president of D&D and chief projects officer at EnergySolutions.

The American Nuclear Society recently hosted a new webinar in its ongoing Educator Training series titled, “Powering the Lunar Frontier: Nuclear Energy for the Artemis Era.” This webinar featured a presentation from Harsh Desai, chief commercialization officer at Zeno Power and chair of the Nuclear Energy Institute’s Space Nuclear Taskforce.

The American Nuclear Society recently hosted a panel discussion featuring prominent figures from the nuclear sector who discussed the industry’s ongoing push for criticality.

Yasir Arafat, chief technical officer of Aalo Atomics; Jordan Bramble, CEO of Antares Nuclear; and Rita Baranwal, chief nuclear officer of Radiant Industries, participated in the discussion and covered their recent progress in the Department of Energy’s Reactor Pilot Program. Nader Satvat, director of nuclear systems design at Kairos Power, gave an update on the company’s ongoing demonstration projects taking place outside of the landscape of DOE authorization.

The American Nuclear Society recently hosted a new webinar in its ongoing Educator Training series titled “Perspectives on Generation IV Reactors.” It was led by Edward A. Friedman, professor emeritus of technology management at Stevens Institute of Technology and the author of Nuclear Energy: Boom, Bust, and Emerging Renaissance.

Next Wednesday, February 18, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. (CST), eight speakers from Texas A&M University involved in the upcoming ANS Student Conference 2026 will hold an online Q&A to discuss the upcoming event.

During this informal, drop-in session, students will be able to stop by and ask any questions they might have regarding what to expect at the conference.

ANS recently hosted a Supplier Showcase webinar, “Digital Tools for Power Uprates: Using DVR and PEPSE to Enhance MUR and Performance Studies,” with a timely topic—power uprates—on the agenda.

Hosted by ANS Executive Director/CEO Craig Piercy, it offered perspectives from the utility, commercial, and academic worlds.

The American Nuclear Society recently hosted a webinar charting the programs and resources that the Society can provide to students, educators, and the public regarding nuclear science and technology education—with a particular focus on the K–12 space. The webinar, led by ANS senior manager of STEM programs Uchenna Ezibe, also provided updates on the progress and future of ANS STEM efforts.
