Nominations now being accepted for 2020 ANS Winter Meeting awards

For more than 50 years, the ANS Honors and Awards Program has recognized outstanding achievements and meritorious service in the various fields served by our Society.

The recipients of the national awards listed below will be honored on November 16 during the opening plenary of the ANS Winter Meeting. Honorees will be notified of their selection by October.

Susan Eisenhower has issued a letter congratulating Peter B. Lyons, the 2020 recipient of the ANS Eisenhower Medal. Lyons, ANS Fellow and member since 2003, was honored during the award ceremony segment of the opening plenary of the 2020 ANS Virtual Annual Meeting. Attendees can view the presentation via the ANS meeting portal.

American Nuclear Society honors nine Fellows and other prominent award recipients

La Grange Park, IL – The American Nuclear Society (ANS) honored nine of its members as new Fellows – the society’s highest member status – and presented additional awards this week during the 2020 ANS Virtual Annual Meeting.

The bestowing of ANS’s highest member status of Fellow to the nine members is out of recognition of their outstanding accomplishments in nuclear science and technology.

Lyons selected for Eisenhower Medal

Peter B. Lyons, ANS Fellow and member since 2003, is set to receive the Dwight D. Eisenhower Medal in a virtual award ceremony presentation held June 8 during the 2020 ANS Virtual Annual Meeting. Lyons is being recognized for his influential leadership in nuclear technology policy over five decades and for the vital role he played in the nuclear renaissance of the early 21st century.

Dr. Piyush Sabharwall, Recipient of the 2013 ANS Young Member Excellence Award

Young Member Group 200x52The Young Member Excellence Award recognizes "a young member who has demonstrated overall excellence in a variety of areas."  It is granted to an actively involved ANS YMG member who "advances the goals of the ANS Young Members Group, displays outstanding non-technical skills as well as technical or managerial ability, is recognized by others in their field, demonstrates high quality and safety standards, and positively represents nuclear science and technology to the general population."

Meredith Angwin and Howard Shaffer Receive American Nuclear Society Presidential Citations

American Nuclear Society (ANS) President Eric Loewen, PhD, presented ANS members Meredith J. Angwin and Howard C. Shaffer, III with Presidential Citations in recognition of their successful public information efforts in Vermont and elsewhere. Angwin and Shaffer received their award during the ANS President's Special Session at the ANS Annual Conference: "Nuclear Science and Technology: Managing the Global Impact of Economic and Natural Events," being held June 24-28 in Chicago, Illinois.

UC-Berkeley NE department receives ANS Presidential Citation

The University of California-Berkeley Nuclear Engineering Department has been awarded an American Nuclear Society Presidential Citation, ANS President Eric Loewen announced today. Loewen will present the award to UC-Berkeley nuclear engineering department representatives during the President's Session of the ANS Annual ConferenceNuclear Science and Technology: Managing the Global Impact of Economic and Natural Events, being held June 24-28 in Chicago, Ill.
