ANS Winter Meeting: What it will take to “Fuel our Nuclear Future"
The 2021 ANS Winter Meeting and Technology Expo began this morning with a Opening Plenary Session chaired by Winter Meeting general chair Amir Vexler, president and chief executive officer of Orano USA. It was an opportunity to both celebrate achievements that are already building a “Nuclear Future” and to identify needs and challenges ahead.
Influential speakers from the U.S. Congress, the Department of Energy, and the Nuclear Energy Institute joined ANS president Steven Nesbit and ANS CEO/executive director Craig Piercy to explore key issues associated with the front end of the nuclear fuel cycle, including supply and demand for high-assay, low-enriched uranium (HALEU). They didn’t stop there, however. They took questions from an in-person and virtual audience that probed other requirements of a sustainable nuclear future, including fueling a human resources pipeline.
COVID-19 Note: Please check this page often for meeting status updates due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
American Nuclear Society meetings and conferences are the best way to keep current with the ever changing fields of nuclear science and technology.
In addition to two national meetings per year, ANS sponsors many topical meetings which concentrate on a particular technical area. Many of these meetings are planned many years in advance and are listed here. To have a meeting listed here, it must be approved by the National Program Committee of the American Nuclear Society for inclusion on the ANS Calendar.
For more than 65 years, ANS has provided a forum for advancing the state of applied nuclear science and technology. We remain committed to serving the needs of the nuclear professional community during these unprecedented times. In the coming weeks, we will be introducing a new set of digital and video tools that will enable the robust technical exchange of an ANS meeting—papers, presentations, posters, and plenaries, etc.—while ensuring the health and safety of everyone involved during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now all sessions will be available virtually!
