ANS is committed to advancing, fostering, and promoting the development and application of nuclear sciences and technologies to benefit society.
Explore the many uses for nuclear science and its impact on energy, the environment, healthcare, food, and more.
Division Spotlight
Thermal Hydraulics
The division provides a forum for focused technical dialogue on thermal hydraulic technology in the nuclear industry. Specifically, this will include heat transfer and fluid mechanics involved in the utilization of nuclear energy. It is intended to attract the highest quality of theoretical and experimental work to ANS, including research on basic phenomena and application to nuclear system design.

Don’t get boxed in: Entergy CNO Kimberly Cook-Nelson shares her journey
Kimberly Cook-Nelson
For Kimberly Cook-Nelson, the path to the nuclear industry started with a couple of refrigerator boxes and cellophane paper. Her sixth-grade science project was inspired by her father, who worked at Seabrook power station in New Hampshire as a nuclear operator.
“I had two big refrigerator boxes I taped together. I cut the ‘primary operating system’ and the ‘secondary system’ out of them. Then I used different colored cellophane paper to show the pressurized water system versus the steam versus the cold cooling water,” Cook-Nelson said. “My dad got me those little replica pellets that I could pass out to people as they were going by at my science fair.”
Call For Papers
Power Point Speaker Presentation Template
Presentation needs to be on a USB drive; if unable to use USB, contact your Session Chair. You will not be able to use your own laptop and must use the conference-provided laptop.
As back-ups to the USB drive, ANS recommends that you email your slides to yourself and upload them to the meeting platform.
Presenters will not be able to access the internet via the session-room laptop.
Full presentations will be 15 minutes in length followed by a 5-minute discussion period. Lightning Talk presentations will be 8 minutes with 2 minutes of Q&A. Both types of presentations can be accompanied by slides.
Use of the conference’s PowerPoint template is optional.
To find or confirm your presentation time, use the Search the Program box in the Technical Sessions program. You can search by your name.
All presenters and panelists need to be registered for the meeting.
When you first check in to the conference at the registration/help desk, please tell the person who checks you in that you are a presenter.
To upload the slides to the conference program:
Must be registered for the conference to access your administrative rights.
Click 1) “Manage Your Papers” in the left-hand navigation bar (under your name), 2) the title of your presentation, and 3) “Attachments/Add a New Attachment.”
To add your presentation, click “Add a New Attachment,” select the Presentation Slides (Admins) attachment type, add a document name, upload the file, and click “Add New Attachment."
On the day of your session:
Arrive to your assigned room (as listed in the program) at least 15 minutes before the start of the session.
Bring your slides on your USB drive to the session room.
Provide the Chair with a brief biography for introductions.
Do not ask the Session Chair to reschedule your paper within the session. Many attendees schedule their attendance at various sessions in accordance with the order of presentations listed in the program.
