Taking shape: Fusion energy ecosystems built with public-private partnerships
It’s possible to describe fusion in simple terms: heat and squeeze small atoms to get abundant clean energy. But there’s nothing simple about getting fusion ready for the grid.
Private developers, national lab and university researchers, suppliers, and end users working toward that goal are developing a range of complex technologies to reach fusion temperatures and pressures, confounded by science and technology gaps linked to plasma behavior; materials, diagnostics, and electronics for extreme environments; fuel cycle sustainability; and economics.
Plenary Session
Tuesday, June 18, 2024|8:00–9:45AM PDT|South Seas A/B/E
Our friends the isotopes: what can the atom do for you, other than produce electricity from nuclear reactors? It turns out a whole lot! From innovative cancer treatments, to sterilization services, to providing power to spacecrafts and lunar rovers, and everything in between, the uses for radioisotopes are growing by the day. This panel will provide an overview of the myriad uses of unique radionuclides outside of traditional nuclear power generation, and how continued research an development in this field serves to benefit humanity.
