RIC session focuses on interagency collaboration
Attendees at last week’s 2026 Regulatory Information Conference, hosted by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, saw extensive discussion of new reactor technologies, uprates, fusion, multiunit deployments, supply chain, and much more.
With the industry in a state of rapid evolution, there was much to discuss. Connected to all these topics was one central theme: the ongoing changes at the NRC. With massively shortened timelines, the ADVANCE Act and Executive Order 14300, and new interagency collaboration and authorization pathways in mind, speakers spent much of the RIC exploring what the road ahead looks like for the NRC.

The CASL Education Program was established to ensure that CASL results and technology were integrated into undergraduate and graduate curricula, and support the transfer of CASL technology to industry users. Programs developed to support this goal include undergraduate research opportunities, summer internships, development of new courses at constituent Universities and establishment of the CASL Institute. Panel members include faculty members from CASL partner Universities (NCSU, MIT, and UM), industry and former students that participated in activities sponsored by the Education Program. Presentations will summarize the history and evolution of the Education Program and its major contributions. Individual panel members will provide their unique experiences/perspectives associated with the program, followed by questions and discussion.
