Division Spotlight
Young Members Group
The Young Members Group works to encourage and enable all young professional members to be actively involved in the efforts and endeavors of the Society at all levels (Professional Divisions, ANS Governance, Local Sections, etc.) as they transition from the role of a student to the role of a professional. It sponsors non-technical workshops and meetings that provide professional development and networking opportunities for young professionals, collaborates with other Divisions and Groups in developing technical and non-technical content for topical and national meetings, encourages its members to participate in the activities of the Groups and Divisions that are closely related to their professional interests as well as in their local sections, introduces young members to the rules and governance structure of the Society, and nominates young professionals for awards and leadership opportunities available to members.

The D&D of SM-1A
With the recent mobilization at the site of the former SM-1A nuclear power plant at Fort Greely, Alaska, the Radiological Health Physics Regional Center of Expertise, located at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Baltimore District, began its work toward the decommissioning and dismantlement of its third nuclear power plant, this time located just 175 miles south of the Arctic Circle.

This conference is the 14th in a series organized by ANS’s Human Factors, Instrumentation & Controls Division (HFICD). Authors are invited to participate in the International Topical Meeting on Nuclear Plant Instrumentation, Control, and Human-Machine Interface Technologies (NPIC & HMIT 2025). Sponsored by the American Nuclear Society (ANS), NPIC & HMIT is the de facto forum for nuclear instrumentation and control and human factors engineering professionals to meet with leaders in industry and academia, discover the state of the technology, exchange information, and discuss future directions. The conference welcomes the submission of full-length technical papers in I&C, human factors, cyber security, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, which will be peer reviewed and published as conference proceedings. Accepted papers must be presented at the conference to be included in the conference proceedings. Papers will be scheduled for either podium presentations or the student competition. Calling all students to submit papers to the 2025 NPIC&HMIT conference in Chicago! Papers for which the Primary Author is a student are eligible for a cash prize. You are considered a student if you were enrolled as a student while the work was completed and are giving the presentation as a current student or within 12 months of completing your degree.
