60 Years of U: Perspectives on resources, demand, and the evolving role of nuclear energy
Recent years have seen growing global interest in nuclear energy and rising confidence in the sector. For the first time since the early 2000s, there is renewed optimism about the industry’s future. This change is driven by several major factors: geopolitical developments that highlight the need for secure energy supplies, a stronger focus on resilient energy systems, national commitments to decarbonization, and rising demand for clean and reliable electricity.
2024 ANS Annual Conference
Dr. Adam Stein is the Director of the Nuclear Energy Innovation program at the Breakthrough Institute. His focus is on the technology, regulation, risk, economics, and public interest in nuclear energy. He also studies complex interdisciplinary systems and decision-making in risk, resilience, and clean energy systems.He has spent almost 20 years in the energy sector as an engineer, researcher, and consultant. Adam holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University, where his research focused on changing the paradigm for emergency preparedness decision-making and response for nuclear facilities. Prior to studying at Carnegie Mellon, Adam earned a MBA, and degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Nuclear Engineering.
