Going Nuclear: Notes from the officially unofficial book tour
I work in the analytical labs at one of Europe’s oldest and largest nuclear sites: Sellafield, in northwestern England. I spend my days at the fume hood front, pipette in one hand and radiation probe in the other (and dosimeter pinned to my chest, of course). Outside the lab, I have a second job: I moonlight as a writer and public speaker. My new popular science book—Going Nuclear: How the Atom Will Save the World—came out last summer, and it feels like my life has been running at full power ever since.
2024 ANS Annual Conference
Peter Freed has spent over 20 years working at the intersection of clean energy and climate. He is currently an advisor to companies and investors looking to maximize business and climate outcomes across the energy sector. His expertise includes enabling load growth; data center development; deployment of advanced energy technologies; utility, regulatory, and policy engagement; and commercial negotiation and contracting — all with a focus on accelerating the trajectory to the clean, reliable grid of the future.
Peter was most recently the Director of Energy Strategy at Meta where his team worked to advance grid decarbonization and reliability by creating solutions that overcome systemwide obstacles while also meeting Meta’s energy and net zero goals. Peter is also a founding board member of the Clean Energy Buyers Alliance. He holds a BS in Earth Systems from Stanford University.
