Senate EPW Committee to hold Nieh nomination hearing
Nieh
The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will hold a nomination hearing Wednesday for Ho Nieh, President Donald Trump’s nominee to serve as commission at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Trump nominated Nieh on July 30 to serve as NRC commissioner the remainder of a term that will expire June 30, 2029, as Nuclear NewsWire previously reported.
Nieh has been vice president of regulatory affairs at Southern Nuclear since 2021, though since June 2024 he has been at the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations as a loaned executive.
A return to the NRC: If confirmed by the Senate, Nieh would be returning to the NRC after three previous stints totaling nearly 20 years.

This session will feature a panel consisting of vendor and utility industry experts discussing how to use risk-informed programs such as 10CFR50.69 and Code Case N-752 to relax special treatments and allow stations to focus on activities most critical to nuclear safety. Lessons learned and success stories will be shared by stations currently implementing risk-informed programs to reduce station burdens and improve overall reliability. Implementation approaches to 10CFR50.69 regarding relaxation of special treatment programs such as Environmental Qualification (EQ), Maintenance Rule (MR), In-Service Testing (IST), and In-Service Inspection (ISI) will be discussed. Additionally, the benefits of using Code Case N-752 in conjunction with or in lieu of 10CFR50.69 for Repair and Replacement (RR) activities will be covered. This session will be beneficial to anyone interested in using risk insights to focus on the right work at the right time.
