Division Spotlight
Operations & Power
Members focus on the dissemination of knowledge and information in the area of power reactors with particular application to the production of electric power and process heat. The division sponsors meetings on the coverage of applied nuclear science and engineering as related to power plants, non-power reactors, and other nuclear facilities. It encourages and assists with the dissemination of knowledge pertinent to the safe and efficient operation of nuclear facilities through professional staff development, information exchange, and supporting the generation of viable solutions to current issues.

Broad nuclear aspirations discussed in Atoms for Appalachia launch

U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann is all about energy—specifically nuclear energy.
On March 20, the GOP congressman from Tennessee joined the official launch of Atoms for Appalachia, the new report from the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center that studied opportunities for deploying advanced nuclear energy in the area to spur economic development.
The council hosted a series of Atoms for Appalachia (A4A) workshops in 2024 in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and West Virginia in partnership with the Breakthrough Energy Foundation. The sessions explored workforce demand, partnership opportunities, and innovation happening across the nuclear industry.
The Nuclear Energy Institute is the policy organization of the nuclear technologies industry, based in Washington, D.C.
NEI's mission is to promote the use and growth of nuclear energy through efficient operations and effective policy.
NEI accomplishes this by providing a unified industry voice before Congress, the executive branch, state, and local legislatures, and federal regulators, as well as international organizations and venues, on key policy issues.
NEI's members include companies that own or operate nuclear power plants, reactor designers and advanced technology companies, architect and engineering firms, fuel suppliers and service companies, consulting services and manufacturing companies, companies involved in nuclear medicine and nuclear industrial applications, radionuclide and radiopharmaceutical companies, universities and research laboratories, law firms, labor unions, and international electric utilities.
