Executive Session
Wednesday, June 15, 2022|1:00–2:45PM PDT|Pacific A
Session Chair:
Paul Dickman
Session Organizer:
Rodney McCullum (Senior Director Decommissioning and Used Fuel)
The siting of a Nuclear Waste Policy Act-mandated final geologic repository for used nuclear fuel high-level radioactive waste has been indefinitely delayed due to political opposition, while the need to responsibly remove these materials at shuttered and operating reactors continues to grow. To mitigate the impacts of this delay, private and federal actions are progressing to site and develop Consolidated Interim Storage (CIS) facilities. Panelists at this session will discuss the latest updates on these initiatives as well as the challenges and solutions that are presently evolving.
