Mark Peters: Building on a strong foundation
Summer at the American Nuclear Society carries with it a sense of renewed momentum as the incoming president takes office and starts making plans for the year ahead. This has been particularly true in the last few years, as nuclear energy moves into a new era marked by broader public interest, stronger policy support, and a growing sense of possibility across the field. Mark Peters, the Society’s 72nd president, shares that optimism—and he is focused on turning it into results.

Major activities in updating standards for digital I&C are occurring worldwide, for both operating reactor upgrades and also SMR and advanced reactor deployment. This panel will focus on the standard updates and new standards and regulations that are being issued to address the multiple regulatory frameworks in the U.S. and around the world. Panelists will represent the standards organizations (ANS, IEEE, IEC) as well as regulators, NEI and international for the range of subjects that are included in these upgrades including Defense-In-Depth and Diversity, Human Factors Engineering and advanced methods of applying risk insights.
