Division Spotlight
Nuclear Criticality Safety
NCSD provides communication among nuclear criticality safety professionals through the development of standards, the evolution of training methods and materials, the presentation of technical data and procedures, and the creation of specialty publications. In these ways, the division furthers the exchange of technical information on nuclear criticality safety with the ultimate goal of promoting the safe handling of fissionable materials outside reactors.

Session Chair:
Sandra Sloan (BWXT)
Session Organizer:
Kristine Soliman (BWXT)
The objective of this panel is to spark a conversation on how ANS and the nuclear industry can promote and progress the use of nuclear energy for decarbonizing the commercial maritime industry. The panelists will lay out the current state, use cases, motivation, and challenges of civil marine nuclear deployment from the perspectives of reactor design & manufacturing, nuclear and maritime regulation, operator training, and end users & stakeholders. Panelists will focus on gaps in implementation plans to drive discussion of where ANS and its members could most effectively participate; for example, leading public education or other civil or government stakeholder engagement, or convening a related working group.
