The US Department of Energy awarded a risk reduction award to Southern Company and Terrapower in collaboration with Idaho National Laboratory (INL) to demonstrate the Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment (MCRE). The reactor is expected to be the first critical fast Molten Salt Reactor in history and will be housed at the LOTUS testbed at INL. This project recently completed its preliminary design and is forging ahead to build a non-nuclear prototype of the system. This panel will provide a status update on the progress being made towards the deployment of this one-of-a-kind reactor.
