Fusion energy: Progress, partnerships, and the path to deployment
Over the past decade, fusion energy has moved decisively from scientific aspiration toward a credible pathway to a new energy technology. Thanks to long-term federal support, we have significantly advanced our fundamental understanding of plasma physics—the behavior of the superheated gases at the heart of fusion devices. This knowledge will enable the creation and control of fusion fuel under conditions required for future power plants. Our progress is exemplified by breakthroughs at the National Ignition Facility and the Joint European Torus.
Educational Session|Panel|Innovation Roles for Nuclear
Monday, August 8, 2022|10:30AM–12:00PM EDT|Banyan 3
Session Chair:
Mark Campagna (USN-R)
Session Organizer:
Track Organizer:
Ken Lowery (Southern Nuclear)
Knowledge Manager:
Mikayla Florez (Comanche Peak)
The objective of this session is to review existing innovative nuclear industry methods now available & being implemented elsewhere; the result would be guidance so that current fleets NPP assets could be more effectively utilized. Areas to be examined include: (1) ) new fuel & material applications; (2) engineering & construction innovations ; (3) AI technology used for operations enhancement-including simulation; (4) digital technology; (5) security staff efficiency improvements; (6) and Emergency planning arrangements. Plans for panel composition for this session are to invite industry stakeholders that represent key NPP operators, Vendors and/or government - regulators to review relevant details, present various methods, and share achieved results.
