Hash Hashemian: Visionary leadership
As Dr. Hashem M. “Hash” Hashemian prepares to step into his term as President of the American Nuclear Society, he is clear that he wants to make the most of this unique moment.
A groundswell in public approval of nuclear is finding a home in growing governmental support that is backed by a tailwind of technological innovation. “Now is a good time to be in nuclear,” Hashemian said, as he explained the criticality of this moment and what he hoped to accomplish as president.

Mark joined NRC’s risk analysis group a few months before the final publication of the Reactor Safety Study. He continued his involvement in NRC risk analysis for another 35+ years, retiring in early 2011 as Director, Division of Risk Analysis, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation. Since then, he has provided consulting services in risk management to government, universities, and private industry. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and a Master’s degree from MIT, both in nuclear engineering.
