Japan’s TEPCO resumes operations; Monday earthquake triggers response
Commercial operations have resumed at Kashiwazaki Kariwa nuclear power plant in Japan’s Niigata Prefecture, Tokyo Electric Power Company has announced.
Last week’s commercial restart of Unit 6, a 1,315-MWe boiling water reactor, is the first for a TEPCO nuclear facility since the March 11, 2011, earthquake and tsunami triggered an accident at the utility’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.

Joined Framatome (then ExxonNuclear) in 1982 and have worked in several mechanical, manufacturing, cycle licensing, and neutronics fuel-related engineering roles as well as project management and other commercial roles.
Significant projects have included contributions to development of the BLEU off-spec U reload supply program for DOE/TVA, design of the ATRIUM 10XM and ATRIUM 11 fuel products, reload fuel supply contracting and account management for the NuScale SMR, and serving as communications lead for the Advanced Fuel Management team developing the capability to deliver high burnup LEU+ reloads to US reactor operators.
