The U.S. Million Person Study of Low-Dose-Rate Health Effects
There is a critical knowledge gap regarding the health consequences of exposure to radiation received gradually over time. While there is a plethora of studies on the risks of adverse outcomes from both acute and high-dose exposures, including the landmark study of atomic bomb survivors, these are not characteristic of the chronic exposure to low-dose radiation encountered in occupational and public settings. In addition, smaller cohorts have limited numbers leading to reduced statistical power.
13th Nuclear Plant Instrumentation, Control & Human-Machine Interface Technologies (NPIC&HMIT 2023)
Dr. Garrett earned his PhD in Nuclear Engineering at MIT in 1998, specializing in Probabilistic Risk Assessment, then went on to Rocketdyne in southern CA, where he worked as a System Engineer in various capacities on every large liquid rocket engine developed by the company in the last 20+ years (X-33, RS-68, RS-83, RS-84, J-2X, & RS-25). Now as a member of the Space Nuclear Propulsion team at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, his career has come full circle, helping to develop requirements for a nuclear thermal rocket intended to serve as prototype for a Mars transportation engine
