During his visit to Armenia on February 9, Vice President J.D. Vance signed an agreement with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for cooperation in the civil nuclear energy sector. The “Agreement on Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Government of the United States of America in the Field of Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy” will reportedly open the door to $5 billion in initial U.S. nuclear-related exports to Armenia, in addition to $4 billion worth of longer-term fuel and maintenance contracts.

This panel will discuss how the emerging compounds called PFAS/PFOS or "forever chemicals" have impacted the decommissioning of both nuclear plants as well as DOE facilities with respect to license termination. This panel will host Industry Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to provide an overview of the chemical properties that lead to their wide used across industries and why they are in the focus of many community oversight committees and state/federal agencies. This panel will also host representatives from Nuclear Plants and DOE facilities to share their lessons learned with respect to the characterization and remediation of impacted media, and the challenges faced as state cleanup levels are being approved at values often far lower than EPA's Maximum Contaminant Limit (MCLS).
