The progress so far: An update on the Reactor Pilot Program
It has been about three months since the Department of Energy named 10 companies for its new Reactor Pilot Program, which maps out how the DOE would meet the goal announced by executive order in May of having three reactors achieve criticality by July 4, 2026.

In the framework of optimization of confinement properties of Uragan-2M, neoclassical transport in the 1/ regime and the pertinent stored energy are studied. A rather wide range of device configurations is considered. For the computations the field line following code NEO for computation of transport measures is used. Computations are performed in real-space coordinates using the magnetic field produced by the device coils. The difference of currents in adjacent groups of toroidal field (TF) coils as well as the current in the TF coils and the additional vertical magnetic field are used as varying parameters. Some possibilities for improving the 1/ transport corresponding to optimum values of the varying parameters are presented.
