Fixing the barriers: How new policies can make U.S. nuclear exports competitive again
The United States has a strong marketplace of ideas on future civil nuclear technology. President Trump wants to see 10 large reactors under construction by 2030 and has discussed making $80 billion available for that objective. Evolutionary small modular reactors based on light water reactor technology are on the market now, and the Tennessee Valley Authority expects a construction permit for a project at its Clinch River Site later this year.

What does nuclear science look like when you're in high school and what happens when you want to go beyond the classroom? Two high school students, who formed the first ANS Accelerators local chapter in Northern California last year, presented on the activities they've engaged in, the nuclear sites they’ve visited, and the Farnsworth–Hirsch nuclear fusor they're currently constructing. More broadly, the webinar provided a unique perspective on how high schoolers view and engage with the nuclear industry.
ANS Accelerators are high school students based throughout the US who are engaging with the nuclear science industry in novel and exciting ways. Eligible students can form local chapters or join the national ANS Accelerators chapter, through which they undertake nuclear science projects, organize outreach events, meet with ANS members, and prepare themselves for a successful career in nuclear upon their graduation from high school.
