The progress so far: An update on the Reactor Pilot Program
It has been about three months since the Department of Energy named 10 companies for its new Reactor Pilot Program, which maps out how the DOE would meet the goal announced by executive order in May of having three reactors achieve criticality by July 4, 2026.
ANS is committed to encouraging all people to enter and flourish in the field of nuclear science and technology. In fulfilling this commitment, ANS will provide travel compensation of up to $1,000 for current student members, who come from backgrounds that have historically faced barriers to entry in STEM, to attend the 2025 ANS Winter Conference & Expo taking place in Washington, DC, November 9-12, 2025.The application is open to all student members of ANS, with consideration given to those from backgrounds that have historically faced barriers to entry in STEM, including students from working-class and rural communities, first-generation college students, and others who bring diverse perspectives to the field. Previous receipt of travel funding, though not a disqualifying factor, will be taken into consideration. Students who have received travel grants three times, are not eligible to apply.
