DOE lays out fuel cycle goals in RFI to states
The Department of Energy has issued a request for information inviting states to express interest in hosting Nuclear Lifecycle Innovation Campuses. According to the DOE, the proposed campuses could support work across the nuclear fuel life cycle, with a primary focus on fuel fabrication, enrichment, spent fuel reprocessing or recycling, separations, and radioactive waste management.
The DOE said the RFI marks the first step toward potentially establishing voluntary federal-state partnerships designed to build a coherent, end-to-end nuclear energy strategy for the country.
ANS is committed to encouraging all people to enter and flourish in the field of nuclear science and technology. In fulfilling this commitment, ANS will provide travel compensation of up to $1,000 for current student members, who come from backgrounds that have historically faced barriers to entry in STEM, to attend the 2026 ANS Annual Conference taking place in Denver, CO, May 31 - June 3, 2026.The application is open to all student members of ANS, with consideration given to those from backgrounds that have historically faced barriers to entry in STEM, including students from working-class and rural communities, first-generation college students, and others who bring diverse perspectives to the field. Previous receipt of travel funding, though not a disqualifying factor, will be taken into consideration. Students who have received travel grants three times, are not eligible to apply.
