ANS is committed to advancing, fostering, and promoting the development and application of nuclear sciences and technologies to benefit society.
Explore the many uses for nuclear science and its impact on energy, the environment, healthcare, food, and more.
Division Spotlight
Reactor Physics
The division's objectives are to promote the advancement of knowledge and understanding of the fundamental physical phenomena characterizing nuclear reactors and other nuclear systems. The division encourages research and disseminates information through meetings and publications. Areas of technical interest include nuclear data, particle interactions and transport, reactor and nuclear systems analysis, methods, design, validation and operating experience and standards. The Wigner Award heads the awards program.

American Nuclear Society on the firing of NRC Commissioner Hanson
Washington, D.C. — The American Nuclear Society (ANS) issued the following statement:
"A competent, effective, and fully staffed U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is essential to the rapid deployment of new reactors and advanced technologies. The arbitrary removal of commissioners without due cause creates regulatory uncertainty that threatens to delay America’s nuclear energy expansion."
The Pittsburgh Section Nuclear Science and Engineering Scholarship was established in June 1992 by the Pittsburgh Local Section for a graduate student in the greater Pittsburgh area or western Pennsylvania pursuing a degree in nuclear science and engineering, or related field.
In 1999, the scholarship fund yielded a larger return and a second undergraduate scholarship was created. Subsequently, the scholarship was renamed the Pittsburgh Local Section Graduate Scholarship.
The purpose of this graduate scholarship is to advertise Pittsburgh as a good place for the employment of scientists and engineers in nuclear science and engineering-related fields.
Pittsburgh Local Section
A selection committee will be established by the Pittsburgh Local Section.
Scholarship awards will be determined by a majority vote.
Decisions of the scholarship committee are final unless the recipient refuses.
