Two steps forward for U.K. advanced nuclear
This week, two significant announcements have emerged from the United Kingdom’s advanced reactor sector.
On June 14, Rolls-Royce, the United Kingdom National Nuclear Laboratory, and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency announced that they had signed two trilateral memorandums of cooperation to collaborate on “advanced modular reactor (AMR) technology, specifically high-temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGR), and the coated particle fuel these reactors will use.”
Separately, on June 16, Bellevue, Wash.–based TerraPower announced that its Natrium reactor design has been formally submitted for U.K. regulatory review. The company also announced the formation of a new subsidiary, TerraPower UK Ltd.
We are proud to offer Professional Development Hours (PDHs) to individuals who attend sessions at ANS conferences; participate in ANS courses or webinars; or who author papers, articles, or books that are published by ANS. PDHs are only awarded for activities that maintain, improve, or expand technical and nuclear-industry skills and knowledge. This service is free for ANS conference, webinar, and course registrants and ANS authors.
We will provide PDH certificates upon request; however, it is ultimately the responsibility of the individual to maintain their own records. If the individual is audited, it is their responsibility to produce documentation that they have achieved the requisite number of PDHs and that all PDHs are applicable to the specific state board.
PDHs will be provided to individuals who participate in ANS courses. The number of PDHs provided will correspond with the number of hours provided in the course description. For example, the Nuclear Licensing & Regulation Certificate Course will provide 16 hours, and the in-person Nuclear 101 Certificate Course will provide 32 hours.
For certificate courses, the PDHs will be included on the certificate. For non-certificate courses, course participants should contact askanything@ans.org if they wish to request PDH confirmation.
PDHs that are earned from ANS courses may fulfill the PDH requirement for Certified Nuclear Professional (CNP) certification or recertification.
PDHs will be provided for live attendance at an ANS webinar. Most webinars offer 1 (one) PDH. To receive a certificate, please notify askanything@ans.org with the following information:
ANS will email the individual a certificate within 30 days after the request is received.
PDHs that are earned from ANS webinars may fulfill the PDH requirement for Certified Nuclear Professional (CNP) certification or recertification.
Individuals who author full papers, articles, or book chapters can receive up to four (4) PDHs; co-authors may receive one (1) PDH. Individuals who write or edit a book can receive up to eight (8) PDHs.
ANS expects the individual to show proof of publication to his/her governing board as evidence of PDH completion in lieu of a certificate from ANS; however, a certificate from ANS can be generated if requested. To receive a certificate, please notify askanything@ans.org with the following information:
PDHs that are earned from writing can be applied to Certified Nuclear Professional (CNP) recertification as follows:
Individuals who review full papers, journal articles, or books (1 PDH per article) that are published by ANS can receive up to 6 PDHs in a 12-month period. To receive a certificate, please notify askanything@ans.org with the following information:
PDHs will be provided to individuals for attending conference sessions, for either one day or the full conference, at a rate determined by the conference programming. Individuals who want to receive PDHs for attending ANS technical sessions must submit the following information to askanything@ans.org:
Requests must be received no later than six months after the conference concludes. Please use "Professional Development Hours (PDHs)" as your subject line.
Certificates will be emailed to the requesting individual within 45 days following receipt of the request.
PDHs that are earned from ANS conferences may fulfill the PDH requirement for Certified Nuclear Professional (CNP) certification or recertification.
