MIT professor develops method to verify compliance with Outer Space Treaty
Danagoulian
Areg Danagoulian of the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is proposing a mechanism for verifying that Earth-orbiting satellites are in compliance with the Outer Space Treaty, which prohibits the placement of nuclear weapons in space. Danagoulian’s “concept and feasibility study,” titled “Verification of the Outer Space Treaty with cosmic protons,” was published recently in the journal Nature.

Nuclear science and technology education is necessary to sustain and develop the peaceful utilization of nuclear technology by providing qualified specialists. As part of the preparatory activities to enhance the nuclear education in Ghana, Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC), with the assistance of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) established the Graduate School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences. This study will provide a baseline analysis of the status of School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences in nuclear technologies that are relevant to Ghana's growing needs and investment for higher education.
