South Korea looks to Southern and NuScale
This week, the United States and South Korea have taken two steps toward deepening their nuclear partnership through two notable announcements. First, the majority-state owned Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power signed a memorandum of understanding with Birmingham, Ala.–based Southern Nuclear.

A high average power diode pumped solid state laser is used to pump large aperture Ti:sapphire enabling high average power chirped pulse amplification. After compression, over a petawatt of peak power will be used to generate fusion ions and neutrons for materials testing of first wall and final optics candidates.
