Air Force selects three microreactor developers for ANPI

The Department of the Air Force has selected three companies to be potential developers and operators of microreactors at Air Force installations as part of the Advanced Nuclear Power for Installations (ANPI) program: Radiant Industries, Antares Nuclear, and Westinghouse Government Services.

Colorado, Montana bases selected for DOD microreactor program

The Department of the Air Force (DAF) and the Defense Innovation Unit within the Department of Defense have selected Buckley Space Force Base in Colorado and Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana to potentially site microreactors.

Wednesday’s announcement moves forward the plans of the Advanced Nuclear Power for Installations (ANPI) program, which was launched in 2024 with the objective of deploying “advanced, contractor-owned and operated” microreactors from commercial reactor companies on bases.

This week, BWX Technologies, alongside Idaho National Laboratory and the Department of Defense’s Strategic Capabilities Office, announced the arrival of a full core of TRISO fuel at INL’s Transient Reactor Test Facility.

Antares raises funds for microreactor development

Advanced nuclear energy start-up Antares has announced the close of a $96 million Series B funding round, led by Shine Capital with participation from Alt Capital, Caffeinated, FiftyThree Stations, Industrious, and other investors. The round raised $71 million in new equity capital and $25 million in debt for equipment, factory build-out, and uranium procurement.
