Climate change is already impacting nuclear facilities and operations. Sea level rise, storm surge, and intense hurricanes are putting sites along the coast at risk. Wildfires have caused millions in damages at Los Alamos and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Extreme cold has damaged critical facilities at the National Nuclear Security Administration's Pantex plant in Texas. Unprecedented high temperatures and prolonged drought are impacting electricity generation in the western United States. Speakers from government laboratories, industry, and federal government will discuss strategies to manage the short- and long-term effects of climate change and how they are assessing climate resilience at nuclear sites.
