Helion secures new licenses from Washington
Last week, Everett, Wash., fusion start-up Helion Energy announced that it has received its radioactive materials license and radioactive air emissions license from the state of Washington.
According to the company, these milestones make it “the first company in the world to secure the regulatory licenses needed for a fusion power plant” and represent confirmation that it has the needed facilities, trained personnel, and safety programs in place to safely operate its fusion machine.
International High Level Radioactive Waste Management (IHLRWM 2025)
Dr. Hiroyuki Umeki is an Integration Advisor of Nuclear Waste Management Organization of Japan (NUMO) to support overall technical activities at NUMO on geological disposal of HLW and long-lived intermediate-level waste (termed TRU waste in Japan), including knowledge management.
During his over 35 years work in radioactive waste management, he was strongly involved in the projects for developing a safety case of geological disposal for HLW and TRU waste in Japan at Japan Atomic Energy Agency and NUMO.
Dr Umeki has been intensively involved in international groups, particularly associated with the IAEA and the OECD/Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA).
