DOE turns to private sector to build out spent nuclear fuel recycling
The Department of Energy on April 22 issued two requests for applications seeking proposals from private industry on kickstarting the reprocessing and recycling of spent nuclear fuel in the United States.
According to the DOE, the RFAs represent an unprecedented opportunity for the private sector to restore the nation’s nuclear leadership.

Dan Moneghan is a Senior Technical Leader - Supervisor in the Advanced Nuclear Technology program leading research on innovative nuclear reactor design as well as the fuel cycle needs and benefits of advanced reactors, such as the recycling of reactor fuel. Dan holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, a Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Florida, and a Doctorate in Nuclear Engineering from the North Carolina State University.
