On May 23, 2025, President Trump issued Executive Order (EO) 14300 directing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to make substantial changes in order to support accelerated deployment of nuclear energy projects around the country. Since the issuance of this EO, the NRC has hosted public meetings, initiated new rulemakings, updated generic schedule milestones, and taken numerous other actions to improve the licensing picture for commercial nuclear technology and support the directives issued under the EO. Concerns have been raised in the press and by informed third parties; however, appreciating these activities, the perspectives of the NRC staff engaging directly, and the overall aims is paramount to the nuclear community supporting any potential chance for success at radical and thoughtful change.
