The spark of the Super: Teller–Ulam and the birth of the H-bomb—rivalry, credit, and legacy at 75 years
In early 1951, Los Alamos scientists Edward Teller and Stanislaw Ulam devised a breakthrough that would lead to the hydrogen bomb [1]. Their design gave the United States an initial advantage in the Cold War, though comparable progress was soon achieved independently in the Soviet Union and the United Kingdom.
You can request Professional Development Hours (PDH) for your participation in the 2025 ANS Winter Conference & Expo. Requests must be received by May 31, 2026. Email askanything@ans.org with “Professional Development Hours (PDHs)” as your subject line and provide:
· Your full name
· Dates of attendance at the 2025 ANS Winter Conference & Expo and the number of hours of sessions you are claiming
o Full conference attendance, 20.5 hours
o Monday full attendance, including plenary, 6.5 hours
o Tuesday full attendance, including plenary, 7 hours
o Wednesday full attendance, 7 hours
· Email address for certificate
A certificate will be emailed to you within 45 days following receipt of the request.
PDHs that are earned from ANS conferences may fulfill the PDH requirement for Certified Nuclear Professional (CNP) certification or recertification.
