Division Spotlight
Thermal Hydraulics
The division provides a forum for focused technical dialogue on thermal hydraulic technology in the nuclear industry. Specifically, this will include heat transfer and fluid mechanics involved in the utilization of nuclear energy. It is intended to attract the highest quality of theoretical and experimental work to ANS, including research on basic phenomena and application to nuclear system design.

Smarter waste strategies: Helping deliver on the promise of advanced nuclear
At COP28, held in Dubai in 2023, a clear consensus emerged: Nuclear energy must be a cornerstone of the global clean energy transition. With electricity demand projected to soar as we decarbonize not just power but also industry, transport, and heat, the case for new nuclear is compelling. More than 20 countries committed to tripling global nuclear capacity by 2050. In the United States alone, the Department of Energy forecasts that the country’s current nuclear capacity could more than triple, adding 200 GW of new nuclear to the existing 95 GW by mid-century.

Many Missions, One Goal: Collaborating for a Safer Tomorrow
Austin, TX|AT&T Hotel & Conference Center
The plenary will feature two members of the NCS community, sharing collaboration success stories. They will be selected via a competition. Click on the + for more information.
Describe a situation where you succeeded in nuclear criticality safety because of collaboration.
All instances of collaboration that achieved a goal in Nuclear Criticality Safety are welcome so long as the instance had a substantive, positive effect on your mission. For example, collaboration between peers in the NCS field (domestic or international), operations staff and on the floor engineers, experimentalists, university professionals, students, regulators, criticality safety engineers, peers outside of NCS, etc.
To apply, submit speech summaries (350 words or less) and/or videos (2 minutes or less) to provide an idea of what we can expect from your speech. Summaries and/or video links (for example, link to YouTube upload or Dropbox) should be sent to the General Chair at tcutler@lanl.gov by June 1, 2025, with “ncsd2025” in the subject line. Winners will be notified of their selection by July 1, 2025.
Get ready for the next edition of NCSD Topical Conference.
