NRC commissioners talk reforms, roles at Day 1 of RIC 2026
Even a last-minute cancelation from Department of Energy Secretary Chris Wright could not derail the optimism permeating day 1 of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s annual Regulatory Information Conference (RIC).
The optimistic theme came up several times during the morning plenary sessions that highlighted Tuesday’s agenda. The NRC commissioners who spoke said the optimism was a result of the “nuclear renaissance” they are encountering that feels different from past nuclear-related revivals that didn’t materialize.
ICRS 14/RPSD 2022 speaker
Dr. Vasilis Vlachoudis, PhD in Nuclear Physics from Univ. of Bordeaux France. Currently holds a senior staff position as physicist in the Beam Matter Interactions section at CERN. The section is in charge of the FLUKA MC code development and its application on the CERN accelerator complex. Vasilis is leading the FLUKA (https://fluka.cern) code development and he is the lead author of flair (https://flair.cern) graphical interface used for FLUKA and other MC codes. Furthermore, Vasilis has an active role in the neutron time of flight facility at CERN as responsible for the spallation target physics optimization and design, as well as the experimental data processing chain.
