Studsvik applies to build more reactors; Sweden seeks majority control of SMR company
New developments in Sweden’s nuclear energy industry continue to make headlines. Last week, Swedish engineering services firm Studsvik submitted an application to build between 600 MWe and 1,400 MWe of new nuclear power capacity “at and around” its Nyköping Municipality headquarters. Separately, the Swedish government is looking to acquire a majority ownership stake in Videberg Kraft AB.

The 2026 ANS Annual Conference is offering a tour of the world’s leading laser fusion company, Xcimer Energy. Xcimer’s leadership will provide an exclusive tour of the laser prototypes at their laser facility in Denver, CO, then conduct a Q&A with all participants.
The tour will highlight Xcimer’s novel approach of using excimer laser technology to achieve higher gains at a lower cost in inertial confinement fusion. Visitors will view the Long Pulse Kinetics platform -- a research amplifier that achieved world records in 2025, and the Kilo-Joule Class amplifier. Guests will also see the beam line for demonstrating pulse length compression technology, which will power Xcimer’s next-generation break-even facility, code-named Vulcan.
This event offers attendees a unique experience to understand the science and engineering behind laser inertial fusion – the only scientifically validated fusion approach with a clear path to commercialization.
Please note that photography is prohibited inside the facility, and cellphones must remain in pockets.
*Please note tour refunds are only available prior to the early-bird deadline. After this date, all tour bookings are considered final and non-refundable.
