Powering the future: How the DOE is fueling nuclear fuel cycle research and development
As global interest in nuclear energy surges, the United States must remain at the forefront of research and development to ensure national energy security, advance nuclear technologies, and promote international cooperation on safety and nonproliferation. A crucial step in achieving this is analyzing how funding and resources are allocated to better understand how to direct future research and development. The Department of Energy has spearheaded this effort by funding hundreds of research projects across the country through the Nuclear Energy University Program (NEUP). This initiative has empowered dozens of universities to collaborate toward a nuclear-friendly future.
Transactions of the American Nuclear Society publishes summaries of all papers presented at the ANS Annual and Winter Meetings, which are reviewed by the National Program Committee and ANS Division representatives. Only those papers presenting new and significant advancements in nuclear science and technology are selected. Topics covered include the following: accelerator applications; biology and medicine; decommissioning, decontamination, and reutilization; education and training; environmental sciences; fuel cycle and waste management; fusion energy; human factors; isotopes and radiation; materials science and technology; mathematics and computation; nuclear criticality safety; nuclear installations safety; operations and power; radiation, protection and shielding; reactor physics; robotics and remote systems; and thermal hydraulics.
ANS publications cannot accept papers from countries that are on the list of Sanctioned Countries and Programs, issued by the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Department of Treasury, in the resource-center sanction programs.
