A first-of-its-kind comprehensive overview of schematic procedures for incorporating safety and environmental (S&E) aspects infusion reactor systems studies is presented. The potential future application of this methodology will provide a tool to enhance the emphasis on S&E interactively in the early phase of reactor design studies. This is illustrated by some representative couplings between reactor design parameters and S&E characteristics.
