Japan gets new U for enrichment as global power and fuel plans grow
President Trump is in Japan today, with a visit with new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on the agenda. Takaichi, who took office just last week as Japan’s first female prime minister, has already spoken in favor of nuclear energy and of accelerating the restart of Japan’s long-shuttered power reactors, as Reuters and others have reported. Much of the uranium to power those reactors will be enriched at Japan’s lone enrichment facility—part of Japan Nuclear Fuel Ltd.’s Rokkasho fuel complex—which accepted its first delivery of fresh uranium hexafluoride (UF₆) in 11 years earlier this month.

Horizontally steerable ECRH antenna system of central cell on GAMMA 10 is developed for efficient electron heating. The steering mirror antenna can shift horizontally absorption position at the resonance surface in the range of -7.3 ~ +7.3 mm from standard position without significant power reduction which is examined with both calculation and cold power test. As a result of the plasma experiments of the antenna position scan, it is found the horizontally optimized position for ECRH. The spilled RF from mirror(the stray RF) seems to deteriorate the hot ion confinement. The newly installed efficient antenna system which has higher transmission efficiency of ~90% has shown improved heating performance.
