This award was established to recognize outstanding achievement in which engineering knowledge has been effectively applied to yield an engineering concept, design, safety improvement, method of analysis or product utilized in nuclear power research and development or commercial application.

The Landis Young Member Engineering Achievement Award is an endowed award, which combines the original endowment by the ANS Organization Members with $20,000 from a gift to the American Nuclear Society in 2004 by John W. Landis.

The award is given annually to an individual who has made significant technical contributions in any one of the many engineering disciplines served by the Society.  The attainment can be in the form of a new principle, concept, design, method of analysis, product emanating from research or development, or from effective application of engineering knowledge to yield a commercial service or product needed in the nuclear energy enterprise.  Management contributions are not considered in the review and selection process.  Emphasis is placed on achievement demonstrating a high degree of technical merit and ingenuity.

Nominations are made with the completed ANS nomination form accompanied by narrative summary of about 1,000 words stating accomplishments, a description of the significance of these achievements, an appended list of publications and a brief chronological resume.

The candidate must be an ANS member and less than 40 years of age at the time of nomination.  An engraved plaque and a $2,000 monetary award are presented at the ANS Annual Meeting.

Eight sets of the form and supporting documents are must be received at ANS headquarters by March 1.
