The award was established in 1985 to recognize and honor Robotics and Remote Systems Division (formerly Remote Systems Technology Division) members who have made outstanding contributions to the field of remote technology.  It honors the late Raymond C. Goertz, who conceived and developed the master-slave manipulator.

Nominees are judged on their contributions to the advancement and/or application of remote technology in the nuclear industry.  A nominee must be a current or retired member of the RRSD, and the nominator also must be a RRSD member.  Division officers and committee members are not eligible during their terms of office.

Nominations are made on a form available from the division and should be accompanied by a 300 to 500 word summary explaining the qualifications of the nominee and his/her contributions to the field of remote technology.

The award is presented biennially; the deadline for nominations is October 15th in the odd-numbered years.  A certificate of recognition and a $2,500 monetary award will be presented at the RRSD topical meeting on Robotics and Remote Systems held in the Spring of the even-numbered years.  Nominations should be sent to the RRSD Honors & Awards Chair.

For more information, please view the Robotics and Remote Systems Division web site.
