A magnetic dipole analyzer has been built and used to measure fundamental parameters on the M4X, an experimental mirror machine with a spindle cusp and simple mirror modes of operation. A result using the M4X is the direct observation of the diamagnetic effect during the formation of hot electron rings in the spindle cusp configuration using electron cyclotron resonance heating.
