In order to produce brazed joints of graphite to copper with superior thermal properties, samples of graphite and carbon/carbon composite were coated with a refractory metal and partially infiltrated with molten copper. The resulting infiltrated samples could be easily brazed to copper supports without the need for reactive metals in the brazing alloy. Heat flux tests from 2 to 8 Mw/m2 showed superior thermal performance for the infiltrated samples.
