Strontium: Supply-and-demand success for the DOE’s Isotope Program
The Department of Energy’s Isotope Program (DOE IP) announced last week that it would end its “active standby” capability for strontium-82 production about two decades after beginning production of the isotope for cardiac diagnostic imaging. The DOE IP is celebrating commercialization of the Sr-82 supply chain as “a success story for both industry and the DOE IP.” Now that the Sr-82 market is commercially viable, the DOE IP and its National Isotope Development Center can “reassign those dedicated radioisotope production capacities to other mission needs”—including Sr-89.

Petro Kotin was born on 13 April 1961 in Vladimir.
Petro Kotin graduated from the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute with a degree in "Nuclear Power Plants and Installations".
After graduation in 1985 he was accepted to the position of reactor hall operator at Zaporizhzhia NPP. Petro Kotin has passed all stages of operational management, worked in the field of international activities.
At the headquarters of SE "NNEGC "Energoatom" Petro Kotin headed the production unit, participated in international projects, was repeatedly invited as an expert to WANO and IAEA missions.
By the order of the President of the SE "NNEGC "Energoatom" dated August 27, 2019 Petro Kotin was appointed General Manager of SE "Zaporizhzhia NPP".
Since April 2, 2020, to May 31, 2022, he was Acting President of SE NNEGC “Energoatom”.
In accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of UkraineNo. 430-r dated May 31, 2022, Petro Kotin was appointed the President ofSE NNEGC "Energoatom".
He was awarded with the award pins "Honorary Worker of Nuclear Energy", "Excellence in Nuclear Energy" and honors "For a significant contribution to the development of nuclear energy in Ukraine".
