Decommissioning & Environmental Sciences
The mission of the Decommissioning and Environmental Sciences (DES) Division is to promote the development and use of those skills and technologies associated with the use of nuclear energy and the optimal management and stewardship of the environment, sustainable development, decommissioning, remediation, reutilization, and long-term surveillance and maintenance of nuclear-related installations, and sites. The target audience for this effort is the membership of the Division, the Society, and the public at large.

German public supports nuclear power
A new survey by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) indicates that 71 percent of the German public supports the continued use of nuclear energy in the country, while 29 percent want it ended. The survey results, which were reported by German news source Bild and elsewhere, come amid ongoing controversy regarding the current plans by the German government to shut down the nation’s three remaining nuclear power plants in mid-April.

Patrick Blaise is currently scientific advisor for Gen2&3 and SMR R&D programs at the Scientific Division for Energies at CEA (French Atomic and Alternative Energies Commission), in charge of co-building the Simulation and Experiment R&D roadmap for the next decade. He was former Chief Scientist for CEA Research Reactor network, technical correspondent for several international collaborations, and head of the Experimental Programs Laboratory (LPE), in charge of 3 main ZPRs (EOLE, MINERVE and MASURCA) at CEA Cadarache Research Centre.
